hi all. i'm very new to jd robb's in death series. 1 quick question, do i need to read all of the books before getting to this in order to undrstand the story? or is it a standalone?

Did Sylvia/Stella know Eve was her daughter? It never said anything (I was somewhat hoping she would realize it before she died), but I don't buy coincidence.

Ok I am rereading this book and the first half I've got caught up with Eve asking for someone to run the anal multiple times. I can not figure out what the word should be or if I am missing a definition of anal I've never heard before anyone got any ideas? Examples "Our probability scans and anals are heavily" "and as such our anal and probability ratio" "Run an anal"

JDR is a gifted writer. However. Is no one, at all, completely disturbed by how AWFUL is what she describes? Not awful in her describing, if anything she is too good. Just the scenes with McQueen and the girls. They are so horrible. Things like this really happen (not to me, thank God, but they do happen). Why do you want to put yourself in that energy? I'm curious as to this book's appeal. Please help me understand.
