I actually bought this book for my husband, so long ago that he can't remember what he thought of it. So, I thought I'd pick it up and read it. However, I have only got to page 15 and, for the life of me, I can't figure out what is going on. Who on earth is Mr Rabbit? Or am I missing something? Just wondering whether it's worth continuing, or if the writing stays like this, it's going to be lost on me.

What exactly are "transport trays"? The question came up on the SF&F Stack Exchange (http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/135458/what-are-vernor-vinges-transport-trays/135467#135467). My best guess was a surface covered with mechanical cilia, but that's a bit at odds with Gu's ability to weaponize them to fire projectiles with great force.
