Turns out that in most cases, the artist is given only a vague description of what the publisher wants for the cover, and it often has nothing whatever to do with the story inside. Most times the author has no say in it. (less)

My library copy, hardbound, has 5 blank pages at the end. Why? If it weren't a library book, I would use those pages to write or create art about the book. Is this intentional?
