Did I misunderstand the physics of this book, or Baxter just wasn't consistent? How can you fall off the Raft? It's an execution method, bring you to the edge of it (which should be a slope in itself, since the gravitational center of the Raft is, well, at the center, but never mind that) and push you through a hole. Since the strongest local gravitational pull belongs to the Raft, you will just stick to the downside.
