It is an interesting time of year - autumn. Our thoughts turn to cooler days and chilly nights. A good time to wrap up and read a mystery like Arsenic and Old Lace, or Agatha Christie's Halloween Party.
Enjoy the reading and the most beautiful time of year with walks to view the changing of the leaves.
Definitely Harry Potter! It just gives me a cozy homey feeling! And also mysteries like sherlock Holmes where its usually rainy and cold in Victorian London and its like that here in the great old Midwest!
Currently reading The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and its a perfect fall book. Set in November and it's definitely has the Autumn mood (that I don't get where I live cause I live in the tropics where the seasons are hot and rainy and hot and sunny)
Right now I'm reading The Old Man and the Sea, and it fits my mood wonderfully.
Out of my read books, I can recommend:-the Moomins (perhaps especially Moominvalley in November!)

I'm also going to read Tolkien's "Letters From Father Christmas" in November/December :)
The long nights of autmn is so good to sit by fire with a warm cup of tea/coffee and read something.
Agatha Christie's mysteries, Dracula, fairy tales, non-fiction on polar exploration, true crime, Russian classics. I have strange preferences :)
Seeing as it's Spring here, I like to re-read Deltora Quest. Spring is definitely the perfect time to embark on a quest imho.
A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger ZelaznyI'm neither a fantasy nor dog person yet I found this book thoroughly entertaining.
My favorite reads for fall are Edgar Allan Poe, or Nathaniel Hawthorne.

The name of the wind. Totally badly wanna read this book this october. I heard great review and positive about this book.
Wuthering Heights, and Pride and Prejudice, are good fall books. I go backstop them during fall and winter.

I have read two of the books!! There are so many good books I have read lately I wouldn't want to choose one in particular.I am on book two of The Game of Thrones( which is fantastic!) and this series will keep me occupied all Autumn,Winter and beyond!!
I enjoy reading horror espically around Halloween. Like to read love stories too, but mostly enjoy reading horror on those long, lonely, cold nights
That sounds both creepy and scary though really good as well. Would be funny it a strange noise came from the garden or something too for added effect! :D
I know it sounds creepy,but I've always enjoyed reading horror and what better time to read it than in the fall when it gets dark and chilly early in the evening?

"Elementary my dear Watson" Yes, what better than reading those lines over and over again this fall. Nothing excites me more than entering the Victorian era in a foggy London and Sherlock Holmes is the one who let me feel the very essence of Victorian culture vicariously.

I somehow connect fall with the Twilight series, so I'm really looking forward to reading them the next few weeks :)

A great list of books!! Wuthering Heights and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow are two of my all-time favorites! I just came across a seemingly unknown novel called "The Lemoncholy Life of Annie Aster" by author Scott Wilbanks(http://www.scottbwilbanks.com/). I was looking for something unique and different and was pleasantly surprised with this story. The book tackles time travel as young Annie Aster discovers a letter from a 19th century schoolmarm from Kansas in her San Francisco backyard. The letter is addressed to Annie and scolds her for trespassing on Elsbeth's property. I think the wit and humor is shown well in Annie's response: "You might want to sit down for this one, dear. You see today is May 17th, 1995 for me. So I'm left to wonder how my back door leads to your back forty with a century and half a country between them" The characters are absolutely wonderful. They are witty and lovable. Elsbeth and Annie have to figure out what is connecting their two worlds and the potential disaster that results from it. I can't recommend it enough.

Personally I get an inkling to read the first Harry Potter, also Dracula, and Sherlock Holmes.
I have read 2 or 3 books out of the list.I just came from the library and brought my fall selection (at least the 1st one): Nemesis by Agatha Christie and A Chave de Salomão by José Rodrigues dos Santos.
My fall readings are donne mostly on classics - i plan to re-read P&P, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre - they have the right eerie mood for this particular season.

The thirteenth tale is definitely a great one. Always a favorite of mines for those cold and rainy seasons.
Don't assume that the World revolves around the Northern Hemisphere...you wouldn't be spinning if WE of the Southern Hemisphere weren't still ATTACHED.You need more South Americans New Zealanders, Pacific Islanders, Australians,Southern African nations and Southern Asian nations amongst your Goodreads Librarians perhaps?; ones who will speak out against your Jaundiced Geography.

who are just entering the Season of Spring...(yes we are!!) which here in Australia is already experiencing bushfires in Tasmania, and 34 degrees Centigrade in parts of Australia, we are expecting a VERY warm Summer which may have crushed Spring's very existence. Perhaps your Autumnal Reading List is JUST the REminder we need that cool cold crisp icy rainy weather exists??? Perhaps your overlooking Our Existence may not express your Ignorance but reveal your Kindness, although I don't believe THAT for a second !!!

I've had Wicked on my reading list for quite a few years (it was recommended by a formerly Wiccan classmate when we toured Salem as a group).This spring, at our local library sale, I managed to pick up a copy. October seems the perfect time of year for this one!
As for those in the Southern Half, is there no Hallowe'en? Are there no great October-related (spring or otherwise) books written by Southern writers? I somewhat remember otherwise...

I think autumn is perfect for reading books with an atmosphere like in Harry Potter, The Secret Circle series (The Initiation) or The Shadow of the Wind !
My favorite Autumn reads are mysteries, English/ Early American classics, and non-fiction books on herbs/plants. I also like certain kinds of fantasy like Chalice by McKinley or The Princess and the Goblin by MacDonald.
