T. Soto I look forward to reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King.

message 52: by Mercedes (new)

Mercedes I read all the time, and when I'm really into a book, I'll even have an audiobook and listen it in the car as well cause I have to keep going. But summer is a little more crazy since I have summer vacation from school. I graduate college in December, so that might become something permanent for the rest of my life!

message 53: by Helen (new)

Helen In the summer outside by my koi pond and in the winter tucked under a comforter on my bed.

message 54: by Jessy (new)

Jessy I read everyday .I just love reading.

message 55: by Les (new)

Les 10 days relaxing by the pool with a beer beside me and a Kindle loaded with books, heaven

message 56: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Hehe it's winter here :) And freeeeeezing, well, not quite. But pretty cold. So I fit with some of the poll results - reading in bed, not on the beach, that's for sure!

Good so many people spend their holidays reading!

(NurseLisa) Square Granny from Ohio I take my tablet Nook (now also loaded with the Kindle app!) as well as iPhone w/my audio books LITERALLY EVERYWHERE I GO. Not kidding. Be it the Doctor's office, visiting family, vacation out of the country, the bathroom, downstairs in my own home, to the grocery store-you get the idea. I must ALWAYS be prepared to read or listen! :D I'm a nerd and proud of it! (That's what a nerd says though, right? Lol). CHEERS to reading!!! ~Lusa~ (@NurseLusainOhio)

message 58: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Good idea to have a tablet or something! But I just carry at least one book around wherever I go :) and my mother continually moans about the weight of my schoolbag (book to return, book currently reading, and book if I finish the one I'm reading). I really should just use a kindle.

message 59: by Lois (new)

Lois I would always take 2-3 paperback books around 201-300 pages long. My favorite reading while on vacation are stories which transport you to a different world, best sellers list and the beach reads. Though I do most of my reading on the bus to and from work in the summer my favorite places to read are on the beach, by the pool on a hot afternoon and on the porch for the cool of the evening.

Robin I read anywhere and everywhere! I always have a book with me....a kindle in my purse...I'm with Mike- a cold winter night cozy with a book! Or lounging poolside! Love me my summer beach reads!!!!

message 61: by Ellie (new)

message 62: by Caryl (new)

Caryl Moulder I always have a book. Currently reading"don't tell aunt tilly she's dead" on my phone. So when ever I'm stuck in line I have that. Also reading paperback savage run by cj box. My kindle has books my nook has books. Read mostly in evening. About a book every 2-3 days no matter what

message 63: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Lee I literally always have a book with me and have been reading literally all summer(which for me basically ends this week). I am honestly so distraught when i actually have to do things instead of sitting in bed with my books.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

I always make sure I bring at least one book on holiday with me because I enjoy reading on the plane. It is also a great way to unwind after a long day in the evening.

message 65: by Mara (new)

Mara I generally take 5 books with me, and it's a combination of long and short. Always nice to have a quickie, and always nice to have a super long one for in between. I'm a mood reader, so I pick up whatever sounds good. And I'm a hardcover-only person, so I of course bring hardcovers. I like to read under trees, in trees, in bed, on porches, or anywhere I can get a view.

message 66: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Kindle is the only way to go! That way I have my book with me all the time! I read whenever possible. The best time to read is at night during the summer listening to the crickets while feeling a breeze, or during a wonderful thunderstorm! I love reading, I read whenever possible.
The world would be empty with out all these wonderful authors and the fabulous stories that come with them!

message 67: by Joyce (new)

Joyce When I go outside to garden or do yard work I place a book and a beverage on the picnic table so when I take a break I'm ready to read. There is also some kind of reading material, magazine, guideposts, a novel, in my purse when I Leave the house for any reason

message 68: by Zubaa (last edited Jul 17, 2015 11:07AM) (new)

Zubaa Abdulkhaliq I think in this vacation I will not read many books as usual because there are two weddings I must attend and as you know girls don't get tired from shopping for any important event!
That's why I am really sad to leave my lovely books...
But when I will return I will bring too many books and will read them in the class under the desk....
Ha Ha Ha

message 69: by Marcy (new)

Marcy I am currently reading Swimming in the Moon. I just picked up Secrets of a Charmed Life, the Flying Circus & Go Set a Watchman. I read at home, in the car & over the summer at the beach or out on my deck.

Isa Fay wrote: "Fake me: Yay!!! It's summer vacation so I'm gonna go to the beach, go to some amusement parks, be active, go to that local icecream shop down the road, maybe even look for buried treasure. But I'm ..."

Totally true and I would never dare to say that reading is a waste of time! But this could be toatlly me. However sometimes (when it's not raining and it's not too hot) I even go outside, but only to read in my garden ;-)

message 72: by Caryl (new)

Caryl Moulder Started the Joe Pickett series by CJ Box and the Virals by Reichs

message 73: by Fernanda (new)

Fernanda After finally finishing A Dance with Dragons (it's taken me soooo long), I have read The Exception, by Olafsdottir, the Icelandic writer. Beautiful prose and unforgettable characters. I loved it. Now, I'm half way through The Children Act, by Ian McEwan.

message 74: by Marilee (last edited Jul 28, 2015 08:36AM) (new)

Marilee I never saw the poll… so here's my two cents… for summer reading, mainly on vacation.

I always have an audiobook or two, to read/listen in the car or plane.

I always try to visit and buy at a locally owned book store, to buy at least one book or more.

I've started reading on a Kindle… I can chose from any book in my virtual library and there's no glare on the page.

I like to read outside, weather permitting, at the beach or on a shady porch.

I love a rainy day so I can escape into an intriguing book for hours on end.

Genres? Usually one book that transports me to another world… another favorite would be a good mystery… and a good memoir is always inspiring.

How many books will I bring? My Kindle is loaded with hundreds, a dozen audiobooks are on my iPod though I may only get through one or two, depending on length of trip. Then there's the book or two I buy at the local shop. This year I bought two, The Nightingale and So You've Been Publicly Shamed… each different, each terrific.

I listened to one of the Medicus books by Ruth Downie which are fun sleuthing in Roman times, and on my Kindle… The Truth According to Us and Circling the Sun, both really engrossing and well written 20th century historical fiction. I also read H is for Hawk, a commendable memoir that deserves it's praises.

How did I get this much reading done? 3 weeks in a rented cottage on Cape Cod, near the beach. I loved every minute, even the two rainy days.

At home during our hot Florida summer, one must deal with all the usual distractions and work so I can't read as much as while on vacation. Plus, it's just too hot to read outdoors when it's 92 day after day. Ah, but winter is coming…

message 75: by Dave (new)

Dave Cullen Really interesting stuff. Every author should read this.

message 76: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya I'm not a huge vacation reader. I really can't handle heat well, and when the sun is really shining, I can kind of feel my brain heating up and becoming worse in focusing on stuff... I usually take one book with me or two short ones, but this year I have not read the ones I took with me on vacation, I was doing other stuff :D.

message 77: by Cedricsmom (last edited Aug 23, 2015 11:05AM) (new)

Cedricsmom I just saw this on GalleyCat via Twitter and totally missed out on the chance to participate in this survey. However, I do love to play around with the implications of the data. For example, reading in bed wins by a landslide, as does reading books that transport one to another world. So here's my silly takeaway from those two: if you're reading books about places that transport you to another world and you're doing it in bed, than just get out of bed! Problem solved: you are in another world, that is, you are no longer in bed. :-P

Taninbar Reading on a cold winters day wrapped in a comfy blanket is just fine and dandy to me. This summer heat drives me bananas.
