Recent Reader Favorite Contemporary & Historical Fiction Hits

A daring workplace caper at an upstate New York big-box store. A heartfelt coming-of-age story in 1950s Puerto Rico. Tragedy and triumph during the 10 long years it took to engineer the Panama Canal.

In the hands of an inspired author, great stories can come from anywhere and anytime. We’ve collected below 50-plus brand-new novels from the contemporary and historical fiction aisles. This is the really fresh stuff. All books listed here were published in the U.S. between January and, well, this week.

A quick sampling: Acclaimed author Dolly Alderton (Ghosts) documents a stand-up comic’s 21st-century romance in Good Material. Debut novelist Rebecca K. Reilly follows the misadventures of a brother and sister from Auckland to Argentina in Greta & Valdin. And Percival Everett rethinks Mark Twain’s most famous adventure in James—one of the year’s most flat-out fascinating novels.

Peggy Gregerson The Fox Wife is a delightful, bracing tale that is full of ghost stories and magical realism, love and sex, and animal magnetism and humanity.

Pretty sure this article is "Recent Reader Favorite Contemporary & Historical Fiction Hits" not anything to do with new books, just the ones that are hot right now

Law Great Expectations is on here, but not the one written by Charles Dickens. Okay... I'm not going to read that one anyway.

It would be hard to even get them. I get most books I read from the library, which doesn't have every single book.

Law Martyr, Victim, Memory Piece, The Women, Come and Get It and James sound intriguing. The Great Divide also reminds me of another book. Do I have to read There, There before reading Wandering Stars?

Bloss ♡ Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop was one of my favourite reads last year. It was so much more than similar slice-of-life books that are gaining popularity. It’s not perfect, but it’s a firm favourite. I highly recommend it!

It sounds like a cosy read about books. I might get that one if I find it at a library.

Why do you write the same comment about the books not being new everywhere? You are weird. Just because you have heard of a book doesn't make it any less new. I know this might shock you but these lists aren't written exclusively for you. They are not designed to enlighten solely you on "new" titles, but for people to discover newly released books to read. Maybe you should.. I don't know.. read one!
