Staff Picks: The Fall Books Goodreads Editors Can't Wait to Read

Here’s a little secret about editorial operations here at Goodreads World Headquarters. We’re nerds. Book nerds. We’re the kids who used to sit at the edge of the playground reading. As grown-ups, we’re the kind of people who go to libraries recreationally. The truth is that we just like enthusing about books. It’s that simple! We’re happy bookworms.
In the spirit of which, we present our latest Editors’ Picks collection, this time looking ahead to the autumn reading season of 2023. As usual, we begin with the popular “Books We Fought Over” section, highlighted this season by new releases from E.J. Koh, Jesmyn Ward, Sigrid Nunez, and Michael Cunningham. (Of course, we don’t physically fight over these books. Well, rarely.)
From there, feel free to take a leisurely scroll through our individual wish lists, featuring contemporary fiction, mysteries, memoirs, historical fiction, some thrillers, some nonfiction, an intriguing romance in the year 1360, and at least one particularly cool-looking short fiction anthology.
Click or tap through the book cover images for more details about each title. And if you’re in agreement with our honorable editors, add some goodies to your own Want to Read shelf.

This fall, I'm ready to sink into some weird contemporary fiction, dive into some memoirs, and cozy up with some great romance. Oh, and I'm also extremely excited to read about the cultural history of eyeliner!

Latest The Girl in the Eagle's Talons (Millennium #7) is a hot mess! Had to read every page twice to understand what is going on.
I love how goodreads does this, all you have to do is put the cursor over the book and it gives you a rating and information on the book. I wish I could do this on all of the books I might want to read. Thank you goodreads keep up the great work!
I would have found this information more useful if it had been divided into genres. But in general, I love goodreads!
I just finished Psychedelic Wild Child, a new book by Dawn Hurwitz. I couldn’t stop reading. It’s an amazing story and I highly recommend it.

Also, Hazardous Spirits sounds intriguing too.
