The Most Anticipated Horror Novels of 2023

Posted by Cybil on January 2, 2023

Here at Goodreads World Headquarters, we have noticed, of late, a decided uptick in the number of readers interested in horror novels. Is it a symptom of the pandemic? Of the general vibe on the planet right now? Is the world just a scarier place?

Maybe. It may also be much simpler: This particular genre has seen an influx of very good new writers in recent years. Not coincidentally, this upcoming generation of writers represents a new level of diversity for the horror genre. Of particular note is the relatively recent rise of Native American horror by authors including Stephen Graham Jones, Jessica Johns, and Nick Medina—all represented by their new books, below.

Also look for new releases from Trang Thanh Tran, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Leopoldo Gout, and Darya Bobyleva. And beware of several other entities haunting the list, including The Nightmare Man, The Destroyer of Worlds, Monstrilio, Ghost 19,  and The Insatiable Volt Sisters.

Zoinks, Scoob! Scroll over the book cover images below for more details, and add anything sufficiently scary to your Want to Read shelf.
