Get a Clue with These 39 New and Upcoming YA Mysteries and Thrillers

Posted by Sharon on April 22, 2022

One of the busiest places in publishing, the young adult mystery and thriller bin currently overflows with new ideas, creative authors, and stories of young people in strange kinds of trouble.

In an effort to help with virtual bin sifting, we’ve gathered below the 36 most popular and highly anticipated YA mystery and thriller books of the year. The “Available Now” section collects books already on shelves—those published from January to the end of April, while the other sections offer a sneak peek ahead at the buzziest books scheduled for the rest of the year.

The lists here are compiled by sorting for the most popular books on Goodreads members’ Want to Read lists, with average ratings of three stars and up. Heads-up on this particular cross-section of titles: Generally speaking, the subject matter tends to be pretty heavy and dark. There aren't a lot of cozies on display. Most of the settings are contemporary, but you’ll find some intriguing historical and speculative fiction, too.

Scroll over the book covers to learn more about each novel, and be sure to add the books that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf!
