Tomer It would have been useful if the list was organized by genre

message 53: by Darius (new)

Darius Myers The Publisher’s Dilemma and Black Camelot’s Dawn are two great entry books into my four book Black Camelot series. Perfect for Black History Month, the series follows the adventures of two African-American businessmen who are named Gotham’s Black Camelots, by a rambunctious group of city gossip columnists. The nickname angers legendary white supremacists groups who vow to end the Black Camelot era. A violent chase begins as the Black Camelots grow in power and ambition to change the world. The series delivers mystery, romance, action and adventures that readers can’t put down. Order on Amazon or at dariusmyers.com

Gryffindorable Fox I really enjoyed reading, My Sister, the Serial Killer, by Oyinkan Braithwaite last year. It was quirky, charming, and fun (even with the murder). Also, Clap When You Land, by Elizabeth Acevedo. This one has so much heart. Blood Like Magic, by Liselle Sambury was also an interesting take on typical witch/paranormal YA type books. And, A Promised Land, by Barack Obama was a really insightful and real look into part of his life and presidency. I am hoping to read, Becoming, by Michelle Obama pretty soon.

message 58: by LemonLinda (new)

LemonLinda I recommend March: Book One, March: Book Two and March: Book Three all by John Lewis as well as the book Jon Meacham wrote about John Lewis, His Truth Is Marching On: John Lewis and the Power of Hope - all excellent!

Theresa Hargitai Vanessa wrote: "Aw, I mostly read fantasy and there are only 4 YA fantasy and 1 adult fantasy (that I could tell). I need more Black speculative fiction."

I really enjoy these two speculative fiction authors -

message 65: by Nicolás (new)

Nicolás "Ridiculous. (...) it's just american history" .- Morgan Freeman.

message 66: by Jody (new)

Jody Some really good sounding books. I'd like if Goodreads had some way of reporting people who clearly decided it would be amusing to be racist and going to every one of these books and giving them a one star and then being a coward by making their profile private but whatcha gonna do.

message 71: by Ae (new)

Ae I recommend And We Rise by Erica Martin! It is an amazing Young Adult that tells the entire Civil Rights movement in captivating poetry. It's amazing and it's a debut novel for a young black author!

message 72: by Don (new)

Don Trowden I think it’s important to read mostly forgotten early pioneers like Jean Toomer’s novel Cane.

message 74: by CedarMoon (new)

CedarMoon The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

message 75: by Lorrie Finley (new)

Lorrie Finley So many books, so little time! I prefer reading "not on the New York Times' best Sellers list" books as they are more often, at least to me, impactful, intriguing, insightful, and enjoyable than those because they are more authentic. As in 'from the heart of the author'. From Non - Fiction to Science Fiction and Mystery, Paranormal to Romance, there isn't a genre I haven't encountered that I haven't liked. This list shows so many possibilities, I am excited to read!
