30 Hot Historical Romances to Light Your Fire in 2021

Posted by Sharon on August 30, 2021

If you've already burned all the way through the Bridgertons series (both the books and the Netflix show) and find yourself still longing for fraught ballroom dances and steamy marriages of convenience, you're in luck with 2021's crop of historical romances! On offer are impeccably named stories about impetuous Scots, queer Regency heists compromised by catching feelings, tales of matchmakers who've finally met their match, and everything in between.

Below are 30 old-timey love stories from this year that Goodreads members are falling for (at least according to their Want to Read shelves). Additionally, to make sure we're suggesting only the very finest of matches, these books have earned a 3.5-star average rating or above from your fellow readers.

Scroll over the covers below to learn more about each book, and be sure to add the titles that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf!

Anna Kļaviņa Subtle Blood was fantastic read! And The Perks of Loving a Wallflower looks interesting.

And I should definitely read a book by Jenkins and Milan my GR friends really like their stories.

Jen I loved The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian!

message 7: by Holly (new)

Holly Hughes Honestly some of these titles and cover art have just left me howling with laughter. Hit me with your best Scot? Priceless!

message 8: by Hayley (new)

Hayley I needed this list!!

message 9: by Andrei (new)

Andrei It seems that vintage dresses are definitely on the trending covers. Every historical novel has the same cover. Different colors and contents, obviously.

QuinnReads You can never go wrong with a Lisa Kleypas book! I will begin listening to and reading Devil in Disguise in the coming days.

message 11: by Patricia (new)

Patricia I think the covers get to be a bit much also. Isn't that what attracts us to the book? I do think the name of the book and the cover are important and a good example of a good cover - good book is Devil In Disguise.

message 12: by Deb (new)

Deb Honestly, I am tired of reading book 1, book 7, book 14 so I stopped reading books that continue on and on with the friends, rakes, wallflowers, brothers, sisters and so on. I would just like to read a novel about 2 people and that's the end. Most of these on the list have a next book. My favorite author has done that and now she may be up to book 14 so I stopped reading hers as well. I think it's ridiculous to keep track of this one and that one. This is just my opinion. I know others enjoy but I will not be reading stories about 25 friends or family

message 13: by Sonia (new)

Sonia I wish that we could filter our suggested reads beyond the historical romance genre!
There are many subcategories of HR and we might not care for some of them.

message 14: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth S Judging from the cover of 'The Heiress Hunt', it could just as easily be called, 'Climb My Pelvis'. I would not read many of these books, simply because the covers are so off-putting.

message 15: by Ver (new)

Ver Why do all regency novels have the same cheesy covers? I want to read some of these but absolutely not want these covers on my bookshelf.

message 16: by A Reader (new)

A Reader Some great choices here! Well, that is another page added to my TBR. :)
