message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Jones If you like atmospheric ghost stories, I can recommend The Twisted Tree. It's set in Norway in the dark time and is based on Norse mythology. It's an easy ready, and was really creepy in places. I kept checking the shadows the whole time I was reading it! https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/sho...

That's not it. Thanks tho! It had something to do with this guy who bought this haunted dollhouse and the dolls move and everyone was terrified and I think he gave it away at the end. I barely remember. XD

Check your local library, they may have ebooks or even audiobooks you can borrow.

message 28: by Lokesh (new)

Lokesh Khatri King of horror books

Goosebumps 😁

message 29: by Lilith (new)

Lilith Best book I've read this year is Taaqtumi: An Anthology of Arctic Horror Stories. I've been recommending it to everyone I know, even folks who are not really horror fans. It's that good.
I found it more atmospheric than pure horror, and YMMV, but the pieces pull from our mythology and folk tales, so that made me love it all the more.

message 30: by Hermione Granger (new)

Hermione Granger I like beebe and the serge

message 31: by TeddyBuddy (new)

TeddyBuddy Great idea!

message 38: by urwa (new)

urwa i hate horror movies but i decided to give the genre a try by reading Mexican Gothic and The Year of the Witching. LOVED both of them, so if anyone has similar recommendations I would be really thankful!!

message 39: by Randi (new)

Randi Whoa, whoa, so many recommendations -- how can I possibly choose? ;_;

message 40: by Brian (new)

Brian Fagan I'm re-reading Dracula, by Bram Stoker. Hard to beat. Steven King's version of the vampire story is also outstanding - 'Salem's Lot.

message 41: by Joy (new)

Joy I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to read horror, yet I noticed I've marked a few of the listed books as tbr. Gah! I've scared myself!

message 42: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Horror is my favourite genre! I'll be reading Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones.

message 43: by Philip (new)

Philip Why is H. P. Lovecraft missing from recommendations literally everywhere? Same goes for a lot of the genre "fathers".

message 44: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Davidson Gonna try and Get Dracula finished this October. It’s taken me nearly 4 years to read it. And some Stephen King books.

message 45: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I do NOT like horror at all.

message 46: by Hugo (new)

Hugo Cukurs If you like zombies, samurais and vikings, Samurais of Fukushima - the battle of the dead is the perfect book to read this Halloween!
You can find the Portuguese and English (Pre-order) version on Amazon! (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08KJJZRLL)

Samurais de Fukushima: A batalha contra os mortos

message 47: by Anindita (new)

Anindita I don't read much horror but I'll definitely recommend "Ghost Teller" Ghost Teller Season 1 (Read it on Webtoons). The scariest thing about this book isn't the ghosts, ghouls, or demons, but the humans.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow this is cool

message 49: by Raven (new)

Raven Black When you realize a book you've seen promoted everyplace as "mainstream" and it's considered horror (Bunny: A Novel) While I'm not one, I know several people who consider horror a "lesser" genre so it's nice to see it get its due!

message 50: by Rudy (new)

Rudy Stankowitz Blades of Glass a little biased, but outside of that I think I Let You Go is probably one of my more recent favs 📖
