Have been reading House of Leaves for, like, ever - maybe I can finish it this month, if I hadn't already started 8 books I would switch all over to horror this month...there's always next year...

That's a good one! 👍 (Although it helps if you read "Harrison Squared" first) I really liked "Raising Stony Mayhall", and "Afterparty" as well. Daryl Gregory is a awesome writer. However, my favorite author of all time? Mira Grant 😉 Or you might know her under her real name, Seanan McGuire. But I read a LOT, so she's just at the head of my group of favorite authors. Chuck Wendig, Paul Trembley, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Lucy Snyder, Ania Ahlborn, Josh Malerman, Lauren Beukes, Gemma Files, Ruth Ware, John Ajvide Lindqvist, Sarah Langan, Thomas Olde Heuvelt, David Moody, Kanae Minato, Stephen Graham Jones, Sarah Pinborough, Joyce Carol Oates, Jonathan Maberry, Dan Simmons, Tanarive Due, Hugh Howey, and so many others! 😏 As you can probably tell, I love the horror genre. Cannot get enough of it. As for what I will be reading this week, it's going to be "Full Throttle" by Joe Hill. I pre-ordered it and it just finished downloading. So fun for me ahead! I am currently reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White. Retelling of Frankenstein from Elizabeth's point of view.

Currently reading Hasty for the Dark, a collection of short stories by Adam Nevill. Very creepy. Might dip into a little Robert Aickman after that. And looking forward to Ghoster by Jason Arnopp, due out later this month, I think.

I'm going back to the classics. Either Dracula or Frankenstein. Hate to admit I have never read either.
Last year for Halloween I read Shirley Jackson, Haunting at Hill House. Last month I finished The Turn of the Key and quite enjoyed it. Will add We Have Always Lived in a Castle to my TBR list.

My horror readings this month will be vampire books. Starting today I am going to read "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu for the next few days, and then for the rest of the month I'll be reading "Let the Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist (and then watch the Swedish film adaptation). This is my first time reading vampire books and horror books at all.

Does anyone have any recs for something creepy, yet not about monsters and/or ghosts (i.e. dracula, witches, etc)? I like reading stories about things that are truly terrifying b/c they could actually happen! I listen to alot of true crime podcasts, but don't necessarily want to read a true crime book. I prefer fiction, but in the sense that it's scary b/c it could maybe happen. Anyone got anything? TIA :)

Have you read "The Stand" (Stephen King)? Creepy, terrifying because it could happen and no witches or ghosts that I recall. :)

No I have not read it. I am not a fan of Stephen King :-/ Also, not really of fan of post-apocalyptic or sci-fi books either. Guess I should've mentioned that too. haha

Horror, thriller, spooky, magical, witchy, etc. Whatever falls within the theme of my favorite time of the year.

A couple others on the shelf if I still have the time.
I have a selection of comics/manga/graphic novels in mind to read this month when I can fit them in.

If you want realistic and creepy with no monsters, try Rough Cut or Last Days

Christine by Stephen King. The movie is a favorite horror movie of mine and surprisingly enough, I have never read the book. So it's one of a couple I want to read this month.

The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. A group of strangers meet each other online and do strange, deadly things to each other and a family vacationing in a woodland cabin.

To me the best books are YA psychological thrillers. This Halloween however I'm reading The Secret Circle series by L. J. Smith! Great series read it as a kid still love it today as an adult!

I just checked out A Curious Tale of the In-Between from the library because Halloween time needs a ghost story.

Right now I'm reading Dracula's Guest: A Connoisseur's Collection of Victorian Vampire Stories .

I've read Horrorstor and My Best Friend's Exorcism, and I highly recommend both. Grady Hendrix is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers.

Latasha, I looooove old R.L. Stine books. I devoured all 4 Babysitter novels in one short summer b/w working & traveling (I was 36 at the time. Lol)

Does anyone have any recommendations on YA horror or that suitable for middle or high school? I was thinking to make a reading list for this upcoming halloween event.
