I loved this book! I cried quite a bit during it, too.

Christina I love books that are long enough to live in for a while. I read The Stand last summer and The Terror the summer before. I can highly recommend both, they are superb. Also, Gone with the Wind became a classic for a reason, one of my favorites.

The longest book I have planned for this summer is The Hunchback of Notre-Dame which isn't quite 600 pages. I may try to fit in NOS4A2 or The Name of the Wind if I can find the time.

C I N D L E Now, Goodreads, this is the kind of content I like to see you post about: something meaty, and worthwhile to the reader I am.

I LOVE lengthy reads, substantial books that go deep and explore flawed characters, their life lessons, with rich symbolism and affecting prose. 550-850 pages is the sweet spot for me, but in general, the longer the better.

I've read a handful of these titles, with several others on my to-read list. A couple others I will add. This blog post is a winner! More like it, please.

👏👍👏

message 78: by Ann (new)

Ann A nice, long travel book like Black Lamb Gray Falcon by Rebecca West would be a nice addition. It boasts 1181 pages.

message 79: by Manas (new)

Manas Kumar Never thought that an absolute classic, Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy, would be missing from this list!!

message 80: by Chris (new)

Chris Surprisingly, I've read seven of these. Guess I like long books. Of those seven, The Stand was the best but it was close with GWtW and Pillars of the Earth.

message 81: by Blairtmcthreeve (new)

Blairtmcthreeve Already included in comments, but another vote for 2666 and The Power Broker. TPB might be the longest book I've read but I finished it faster than some books half the length. 2666 is difficult at times but few writers can enchant the way Bolano does.

message 82: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Ferrara Loved Murakami. Other recent long favorites: SevenEves by Neal Stephenson snd Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and The Secret History by Donna Tartt

Melissa Price Own a few of these, but haven’t read.....yet. I’m absolutely thrilled to see Ken Follett The Pillars of the Earth (Kingsbridge, #1) by Ken Follett <———— that and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult are the two books which took my love for reading to the avid, crazy, book nerd level I’m at today. Okay, life took me away for quite a bit, but I’m back, this article is an awesome one and to see the book which catapulted my extreme love for reading to this level.....I’m a very happy reader right now. Especially since POTE is one which is mostly a love it or loathe it book so I didn’t think I’d see it here. Thank you GR’s!!

message 87: by Nichole (new)

Nichole War and Peace was a very long read, but I did enjoy it. I liked that book far better than Anna Karenina.

Bili Espada I have read few books less than 600 pages long and almost none of those longer than 600 pages that I have read are listed here. My list of books longer than 600 pages will exceed the hundreds and they all are excellent reads.

Right!? I love The Name of the Wind but I didn't consider it a long read. The Stormlight books are absolutely worth noting in this list seeing as they are each 1000+ pages and damn near impossible to put down!

message 93: by Şehriban (new)

Şehriban Kaya Ernesto Bolano's 2666 should be here! From this list I definetely recommend East of Eden as well as Middlemarch.

message 94: by Samantha (new)

After reading Sanderson, my idea of what constitutes as a long book has definitely changed. Heck, some of the WOT books aren't long IMO.
