A teenage vampire is right behind me. His cologne of blood betrays him first as he pads barefoot, moving quietly through the dark. His eyes are purposeful and agleam; his skin so pallid as to be bloodless. The intruder's lips are already parted in anticipation. A contorted reflection of the raven on his left shoulder is barely there in the mirror, but it is just enough. I turn, and... There are screams in the hall and the raven flies so hard into the mirror that the glass shatters. The teenage vampire and I face each other. Only one of us will live.
