When not writing, she enjoys exploring historical sites and immersing herself in the imaginary worlds created by other authors.

I love using primary sources for my research no matter what era. The further back in time I go, the more difficult it is to find diaries and memoirs, but I've found a few. I also look at newspapers, catalogs, and books written during the time period. For my WWII fiction, I often watch YouTube interviews conducted by universities and museums. I also watch documentaries.(less)

Marrying Miss Marshal by Lacy Williams

Clear rating
Another fantastic story by Lacy Williams. The author does a great job of developing the two main characters. Unheard of at the time, Danna Carpenter has been appointed marshal in her town, yet she receives no support from the town council and is ofte ...more

A Basket Brigade Christmas by Judith McCoy Miller

I love books based on true events, and this collection of three novellas by three different authors does a nice job of building the town and characters of Decatur, IL to tell the story of the Basket Brigade. I enjoyed all three stories, but I struggl ...more

The Lady of Galway Manor by Jennifer Deibel
Rate this book

The Lady of Galway Manor could easily have been formulaic with its premise of girl-meets-boy from “the wrong side of the tracks,” but the story is anything but predictable. The author has obviously done her research into Irish history during their fi ...more

A Love So Real by Kimberly Rae Jordan
Rate this book
Clear rating
This is the first book by Kimberly Rae Jordan I’ve read, but it won’t be my last. She is an excellent writer who has obviously done her research. I don’t read a lot of contemporary fiction, and I’m “of an age” that technology and social media aren’t ...more

Mail-Order Gambler by Sarah Lamb
Rate this book

I enjoyed Mail-Order Gambler very much. Ms. Lamb does a great job of developing Kody’s character, a reformed gambler whose dialogue is peppered with gambling phrases because it has been an integral part of his life for so long. He works hard to chang ...more

Beyond the Melody by Amanda Cabot

I would give Beyond the Melody ten stars if that was an option! The story takes place in Ms. Cabot’s fiction town of Sweetwater Crossing, and features descendants of characters from earlier books in the series. The premise is unique, and the author h ...more

“As Benjamin Franklin said, ‘It is the working man who is the happy man. It is the idle man who is the miserable man.’” Daria laughed. “He also said, ‘Tricks and treachery are the practice of fools, that don’t have brains enough to be honest.”
