This is interesting and a good point. By writing about what you are interested in, following those interests, your interests become "what you know." Since you are interested in space travel, you read the articles and books, talk to people who know things about space travel, watch the programs on space, and eventually your interest makes space travel what you know and feel comfortable enough to write about.
