The troublesome duke and the forgotten queen

Two medieval deaths to report on August 25th. Hugh, Duke of Burgundy, died in 1192 at Acre, after falling ill. At the time, Richard was gravely ill at Jaffa, hovering near death from an attack of malaria, but according to the chroniclers, this news set him on the road to recovery. And in 1482, Marguerite d’Anjou died, alone and forgotten--at least her body did. I think her heart died on the field with her son at Tewkesbury eleven years earlier.

Rebecca I've always felt a little sorry for Margaret of Anjou, but she was also one tough lady. I do think she loved Henry VI and tried to protect him and his interests, but it must have been difficult due to his mental illness. And as you said her heart was broken with the death of her son......

On another note when someone posted in a Game of Thrones forum that it is impossible to wipe out an entire family, I reminded them of the Plantagenet's under the Tudor reign. It can indeed happen, sadly.

Sharon I do not think she loved Henry, Rebecca, but we can all agree that she adored her son.
And yes, the Tudors did indeed do their best to eradicate all those with Plantagenet blood.

Rebecca When I say love I don't mean 'in love'...I think she tried to protect her husband but at the same time incurring many enemies. I also don't think Edward was Henry's son....but she died a broken woman in the end and perhaps some of that was her own fault.
