What happens in Alagaësia after Eragon and Saphira leave?

Hi guys,

I've just released Jeod's Letter—originally published in the deluxe edition of Inheritance —on my website, Paolini.net. This description of life in Alagaësia nearly a year after the departure of Eragon and Saphira gives you a peek into the future of your favorite characters. Check it out! If you missed previous deleted and deluxe scenes, you can access all of them here.

Work on my new scifi novel continues apace. As you can see below, it's not a short book! (Don't worry, when I’m ready, I will return to Alagaësia).

Christopher's progress on his new book as of July 7th, 2015

In the meantime, for those of you who have submitted questions about the Inheritance Cycle and my current project, I've answered some in my Q&A series. (If you'd like to ask me something, post your query on Twitter and I'll do my best to respond.)

Over the years, I’ve sketched many of the characters and locations in Alagaësia. If you’d like to see how I imagined a place or character, visit my art desk series page and art galleries.

I've also interviewed a series of esteemed authors and artists for my website. Recent guests include Tony Diterlizzi, John Stephens, and Bradley Trevor Greive. These conversations, which you can view here, contain lots of fascinating tidbits, along with practical information for writers.

If you happen to be in Montana this month, drop by my reading of Dr Seuss's new book, What Pet Should I Get? at Barnes and Noble in Bozeman. I'll be happy to sign your books!

Well, that's all for now. As always...

May your swords stay sharp!

Christopher

p.s. Do you like crosswords and word searches? My team put together a couple of challenging Inheritance Cycle themed puzzles.

Emma Lots of great links and info in this post! Thank you. Looking forward to reading your scifi book... and hopefully a book or more short stories about Alagaësia in the future. :)

Kay I'd like to read more about Murtagh, admittedly. I feel like he wasn't given enough emphasis in Eldest and Brisingr, and while he did feature more prominently in Inheritance, it still felt wanting to me. That'd be an interesting idea for a continuation of the cycle. Or a new cycle, as the case may be.

The sci-fi project is interesting me. I'd like to know more about it, but I understand that can be difficult when it's unfinished. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for it in the meantime.

Rhonda Rea My name is rhonda I have all the books you wrote on eragon, eldest.brisingr,&inheritancr

message 7: by Kanomi Okina (new)

Kanomi Okina ||Emily the Seraphim|| I agree with Kay. I would like to read more about Murtagh. I want to know how he came to be the man we read about in the Inheritance Series. Perhaps the next series will be only about Murtagh?

message 8: by Katy (new)

Katy Yeah, that would be pretty interesting. I know I would enjoy that, and I bet I'm not the only one!

message 9: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Rea I would like to read more about eragon's mother and father

Indéa Awesome! Almost finished with inheiritance! And boy,it is GOOD.

Sam Wow. I love the inheritance cycle SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!! I'm almost finished with Inheritance. When I heard that Hollywood cant make Eldest as a movie, I was like WHAT??!!! UGH!! There are LOTS of things that they left out. Like Solembum, Joed, 3 eggs not 1, and lots more! How do you feel about the movie Eragon?

I thought it was terrible. I'm honestly not surprised that they refrained from making Eldest since they left so much out, in addition to screwing over the rest they left in.

People who didn't read them book/s really seem to like it.

p.s. I'm not one of them.

My friend is actually one of those people. I don't mind it, but I have encouraged her to read the book.

Shea Leigh I loved all of the books, and seeing this made me go read Jeod's Letter. I loved that too.

Shea Leigh Mr. Paolini? Have you seen the movie that they made from the books? If so, what did you think of it?

OMG! Yes, I'm not the only one! I really dislike what they did to the books with the movie, they tried to smush it all together. We weren't supposed to know that Brom was a rider until he was killed, and the Urgals and Kull had horns! Also, since when do dragons have feathers? Another thing, Arya was not wearing a dress, she wore dark leather leggings and a dark leather top with a band to hold back her long BLACK hair. i could go on, but I'm already rambling so...

There were also supposed to be elves and dwarves in the universe, but everyone in the movie was noticeably human. I'm not sure why they made that choice.

Who knows....Maybe they skimmed through the books and feebly attempted to recreate it as a film?

I don't think they cared about accuracy, to be honest. I think the director was either trying to make a quick buck or trying to become the next Peter Jackson with his own far-fetched interpretation of Eragon, but inadvertently turned himself into the Uwe Boll of book-to-movie adaptations.

Carolina Osorio Am I the only one that hopes he'd write an Angela spin off? I have a feeling she's a really important character, she's seen and done so much and I'd love to read her story.
Fingers crossed!

That would be neat. Still, I think Angela is supposed to be an homage to Doctor Who, so I'm not entirely sure how that'd work.
