A few readers wrote with some concern that this book was more “explicit” than my others and they wondered why I had Abra in relationships with three men. I knew that question would come up, what surprised me is the discomfort seemed to be focused on the love scene between Abra and Joshua as a married couple rather than her experiences with Dylan and Franklin Moss.
I completely understood and appreciated why Francine developed the characters and scenes the way she did. I'm actually surprised by people who felt the book had explicit love scenes; I believe I read one reviewer who was concerned about her teenager reading the book. I see it the exact opposite---I think a book like this opens the door for healthy discussion with teenagers. I didn't think the scene's were overly descriptive or inappropriate. The daily news discusses much worse.
Two older women in my church had that concern and asked me to read it. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. i didn't think any of the scenes were bad or went into detail. I for one think christian books are now much more interesting than they used to be. They are now real, like human beings are. I gave up reading Christians books until authors like you made the characters imperfect. I love your books, Thanks!
