To pre-order or not to pre-order …

Note: I posted this over at Magical Musings last week and wanted to share it here on my blog as well. Do you pre-order? You know what I’m talking about — all those tempting little buttons next to books by your favorite authors. The ones that let you pre-order a new book months in advance. Whenever I’m talking about my →

Commentary I am an avid ereader and yes, I pre-order, especially if there is a really good price. Often Amazon has the pre-order pricing lower than when the book comes out. Since I have a limited book budget, pricing is very important to me. My top limit is $7.99 which means waiting for price drops for some authors but books that sell for that anyway can often be picked up for $5.99 on a preorder. Since I read between 120 and 150 books a year those savings can add up pretty fast. I have not ordered cold burn because I typically don't care for YA but I love the Spider series and enjoyed the old superhero series as well. Spider always gets a preorder from me.

Jennifer Estep I do like the pre-order guarantee that gives you the lowest price before the book comes out. I tend to use that on movies/TV shows when they come out on DVD.

Glad you are enjoying the Elemental Assassin series. I am also hoping to e-pub a new Bigtime book later this year.

If you like my Assassin series, you might like my YA books too. They both have a lot of the same elements -- strong heroines, magic/world building, lots of action scenes.

Thanks again and happy reading!

Commentary Thanks for the reply. I will try your YA. (Big sister just sent me a gift card).

Jennifer I rarely pre-order but if it's a book that I know for a fact I'm going to buy a physical copy of either when it comes out or not long after then I'll pre-order if it has that "lowest price" guarantee when pre-ordering

Jennifer Estep I don't pre-order all that often when it comes to books. I usually just go to the store and get the book the week it comes out. I will pre-order movies/music, though. I like that "lowest-price" guarantee too.

Jennifer There aren't any book stores where I live since it's in town so it's not that often I get to go to a book store unless its the new used book store that opened up right at the beginning of the city so when I do go it's definitely fun (haha)! The "lowest price" guarantee is the best. I've only ever seen that offered online though.

Jennifer Estep I like going to used bookstores. You never know what you might want on the shelves. It's sort of like a treasure hunt for good books. LOL.

message 9: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer LOL it really is! Last time I was there I even found a stand alone book by an author that I read, which I didn't even know she did a stand alone book before.

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Estep I've done that before. Or found books that I had been meaning to read for a good price.

message 11: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer That can definitely brighten your day, hah. I've found a lot of good cook books due to used book stores.

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Estep I hadn't thought about buying cookbooks there, but that's a good tip.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer That's where most of mine come from. My Mom got started on that ever since I showed her, lol.

message 14: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Estep I like cookbooks, but I never have time to make everything in them. LOL.

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer LOL I know what you mean. Sometimes it's a little easier with the cookbooks that focus on quick meals as far as time goes
