You know we travel with cats…

We found this marvelous thingie to replace our ferret cage. http://www.dogkennels.com/dog-kennels/dog-exercise-pens/softsideplaypennavytan.cfm

It weighs incredibly little, pops open, folds in a jif, and when all zippers are zipped, even a ferret would not easily get out, unless it ate its way through. Cats won't. Dogs—well, generally won't. And for those of you who like to take a trip with your pets of almost any sort, this is big enough to contain the food dishes, litter pans, water, you name it, plus a sleeping mat. Our big multi-shelf thingie is good, it rolls, but it'll take two or three fingers as a pinched offering before it stays put. This one is a grab-it-shake-it, zip-it, assembly and easily fits under your suitcases in the car trunk.

Welwyn Wilton Katz This looks like a really good way to keep a pet safe without driving it and you crazy. We have a cat, and she travels with us, too. I discovered an amazing gadget which I can only describe. It's a waterdish that travels without spilling. What it looks like is an ordinary bottle, which I fill with water, then screw the "cap" on. The cap is really a dish that screws onto the water bottle, and it has two prongs to keep it from moving on the water bottle. Then I fill it 2/3 full of water, and in she goes, heavy enough that Chloe can't knock it over. We tell her it's a toy (one of her several words of English vocabulary) and we move it around the house when she isn't travelling. She looks for it and drinks. The vet approves because cats are hunters, and so "found" water is always nicer to them. Cats need to drink a lot of water, and Chloe will drink this little dish right to the bottom. There is a little pop-tab inside the lid/dish which, if you open it, will allow more water to flow from the bottle to the dish without having to unscrew the lid. It cost less than ten bucks and is *so* worth it! Got it at Pet Smart, but I'm sure other places have it. Sorry I can't take a pic of it. I -- er-- lost where I put it last. Chloe will find it, though! :)

Welwyn Wilton Katz Oh, by the way, C.J. I am your fan of course, who isn't? But I am also Jane Fancher's fan. I can't find the technique I used to make that clear to the world. If you know, will you remind me? And if you don't, will you tell Jane for me? I think she's the most wonderful blog-mistress (visions of whips) I have seen online. Gentle, thorough, serious, thoughtful. Just great. Just tell her I'm the one who sent her the Devil's Advice poem.
