The Duchess of York and Lady Stanley

Two women of great interest to students of the Wars of the Roses are associated with this last day of May.
May 31st, 1495 was the date of death for Cecily Neville, Duchess of York and mother to the two Yorkist kings. Anne Easter Smith has written a novel about this austere, resolute woman, Queen by Right.
And lastly, on May 31st in 1443, Margaret Beaufort was born, no cause for celebration for any Yorkists, of course. She is a character in Brian Wainwright’s wonderfully clever spoof, The Adventures of Alianore Audley

``Laurie Margaret Beaufort has always fascinated me. Loved the The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory.

Queen By Rightwas a fascinating book as well.

Charlene So much of my reading is 12th-13th century non-fiction these days. I need to quit the day job so I have time to read the fiction of these later time periods. I'm currently watching a British series (on Netflix) called Monarchy - I've just seen the episode on the 3 Edwards. I was surprised the historian/narrator hardly had 2-3 sentences to say about Richard I in an earlier episode. :)

Rebecca Hill I loved Queen by Right. Cecily Neville was the Eleanor of her day. She was an enigma for sure during her time
