I’m on a cold streak…

I think frustrated, maybe even angry is a good way to describe my mindset when it comes to reading. Of the last 11 books I’ve read, I’ve only been able to get into one, The Red Knight. I’m waiting for that one book that will offer me a character and story that I can’t put down. Because of this frustration and search for something to love, I’m not going to keep reading a book that hasn’t grabbed me a quarter of the way into it. Therefore, I don’t have any reviews of books I’ve completed, but I will supply the two I stopped reading this week and my reasons for it. Now, keep in mind that my desire to find a character that I can’t stop reading has lessoned my patience for tolerating a book, even if it has a good story. I’m dying for a good character driven book and until I find it, nothing is safe. Due to my finicky mood and because I didn’t finish these, I’m not writing a review on Goodreads or Amazon. There might be something amazing in the later parts of these books and I don’t think it’s right that I judge so quickly and blast the book for it. Below is just merely my thoughts and reasons why I didn’t continue. As for what’s next? Well, I’ve got to go through my to-read list and see what strikes my interests. Hopefully I can find a book to pull me out of my slump.

Thkingmakere Kingmaker by James G Pearson

I have a poor eye for editing. My mother will read a book and rant on about the number of errors she finds. I’ll read it and if I’m lucky, I’ll find one of the million she discovered. That being said, this book was stocked full of errors that actually made me lose focus. I had to reread sentences due to horribly poor comma usage, structure, and context. There might have been a good story in there, possibly a character I would’ve come to like. I just didn’t have the patience to trudge through the errors. If ever this book was edited and republished, I might give it a go again.

This came down to purely my lack of interest. I didn’t get far, but early on I didn’t care and my frustration had already peaked beyond rational that I just couldn’t get into this book. As with the last ones I read, I felt so distant from the character and I knew by the direction the book was heading that nothing would change for me. Keep in mind, this book has 20 ratings averaging 4.55 stars, so it’s resonating with quite a few readers.

I wouldn’t take my opinion to heart when deciding if you want to read these two books. Sadly, I’m just a reader who has ran out of patience. There could be a few prospects that get trampled in my search for the immediately fulfilling, for that character that hooks me with his/her first words.

Amber I hope you find your next read soon Ms. Evans. I am reading Blood of the Realm and it's a pretty good read thus far. I'm also finishing a scifi thriller called Smokescreen by Tasha Lessey about an alien invasion on earth that are aliens disguised as humans. It's pretty good and different from the other thriller R4R ebooks I've gotten recently.

Thanks, Amber. I've got Blood of the Realm on my list but I have cold feet. I read the first few pages and its got my interest. But I think I'm going to read something of Brent Weeks before I start that one. I've heard his works have a darker edge which I guess I'm kinda in the mood for. We'll see. Fingers crossed :)

Paul I hate it when I get into a reading slump and can't seem to find anything. Just a thought but have you tried the Dresden Files? One of my absolute favourite series and great fun with some fantastic characters. I wouldn't say they are dark books so may not be what you are looking for right now, but maybe something to add to your list. First book is Storm Front if you are interested.

Hope you find something good soon.

Funny you should mention because I just checked it out and bought it today. I liked the first chapter so I figured I would give it a try. We'll see... Fingers crossed!

Paul Great minds think alike :) Really hope you enjoy it. The first few books are good, but in my opinion the series becomes amazing from book four onwards so, unless you hate it, I would recommend trying to get that far.

Let me know what you think of it.

Not too shabby. I've posted a review and will definitely keep reading the series.
