in which the author talks about characters no one has seen yet and then asks a question

I never know what to say in these blog posts. Sure, if you want fannish squeeing and random pictures of food and porn there's always my Tumblr, but an author-y blog posts people are supposed to be more author-y, have things to say about writing or the world in general that aren't just notices about upcoming release dates, all that. Only honestly I know next to nothing about the publishing world, and I feel like everything else comes out in my stories anyway. What does that leave? Just the updates. *sigh* But, you know, they are exciting to me and exciting things are fun to share.

First things first, everyone knows I posted a free short story, right? Well, I did. It features a slightly cracky (a lot cracky) fairy tale version of two characters who have been TORMENTING ME FOR OVER A YEAR NOW.

Ahem. I suppose that is something to talk about. Some stories are like that. You know exactly what is going on and you're compelled to write them as quickly as you can get the words out and you remain obsessed with them even once you are done. Wicklow and Rhoades were like that for me. But other stories are just a big mess. They keep growing and nothing ends up as you originally planned until you finally make yourself finish after many stops and starts and then suddenly it's exactly how you wanted it. But different. Will and Charlie were more like that. Er, Nathaniel and Tim are apparently like that as well. They insisted on writing themselves and that is always a struggle.

And can I tell you how much I regret giving werewolves quick healing powers and a fast refractory period? And how much I regret writing a sexual frustrated, *incredibly* confused young werewolf? Because I have spent hours upon hours upon hours writing porn and I'm not done yet! At least they have kind of reached an understanding, the two of them. Soon Tim might even understand what cuddles are.

(He needs lessons. Wicklow, now, you could give Wickow cuddle lessons and he'd still stare at you like you're crazy... So, I write characters with space and touching issues. So I write characters with issues. Ah well. That isn't news.)

Hmm. Updates. So. Wicklow and Rhoades were accepted (yaaaaaaay!) Preliminary title: Wicklow's Odyssey. That might change. Expect Civil War Steampunk sometime in July or early August.

Meanwhile, I was sent notices that audiobooks are going to happen for both, "A Boy and His Dragon" and "Play It Again, Charlie." I even got to listen to some samples. That was thrilling! And anxiety-inducing. And strange. And fantastic. And I don't generally listen to audiobooks so I hope those turn out okay. I will let you guys know what they are coming out.

I continue to write Tim and Nathaniel (working title(s): Little Wolf. Or The Alpha of Wolf's Paw. Or What Wolves Do. Or... something chess related. Because when you think werewolves, you think, chess.) Getting closer to the end. Woo hoo! I still don't know what to do about my short Beings stories. I want to write a few more and put them all together, but then again I don't know if Dreamspinner would want that. I'm such a weird writer.

And um, oh hey. Conventions and things. Fun? Something people in more than a hang around the comic book booths kind of way? What kind of conventions do people go to where they want to interact with authors? *Do* they want to interact with authors? (Or m/m authors for that matter?) What's that like? I have only ever gone to one convention and it was a very large one and very expensive and well... I did not enjoy it much despite my nerdiness. So I am trying to see the appeal. They aren't something you can explore on a whim when you are on a budget.

Depends on what you want to get out of them I suppose. y/y? y/n?

Achim Do you think writing Dreamspinner that I need (not only greedy wanting) a few more Beings would help? Would be sad not to see more of that world … it's a special one I really came to like.

Goodness you are sweet! They might always want them as separate short stories when I finish them. And there will always be Tim and Nathaniel. And the free stories I put up with the Beings.

I promise to submit the shorts when they are done (my goal to try to finish them before summer). Mostly because I love them so.

(You made me smile though. So much smiling.)

Achim Hm, while mentioning the free stories … you still don't want to imagine Bertie's child? The situation when the egg is cracking? Arthur's reaction seeing the baby girl dragon the first time? I want to … but need your help. There's no boy and his dragon and their daughter without you … but now I need to quit - have to read The Little Prince … how could I have missed that ;)

Oh Bertie is dying for a little hatchling. I could never deny him. Arthur however, Arthur is scared to death at the thought of being a parent. Poor baby, he puts such pressure on himself. :) He'll take some convincing.

I'm sure he is and I can really imagine why he's scared and I would be scared too and I certainly also wouldn't tell Bertie the reason why … but that's part of his appeal and he's precious (hope Bertie doesn't mind too much me saying so) - so there will be a solution (please, there has to be one, pretty please).

Didn't read The Little Prince yet - 'cause I got swept away by Will and Charlie and now that I'm finished it wouldn't be fair to them to switch so easily to someone else. Just can't do that - so thx for additional stories on your journal (guess I should make my comments there, do I?) I loved that approach. It's like visiting people I came to care about from a distance and be able check that they are still fine ;) over the years (ohoh, reading english is so much easier than writing it). I really like that.

Hm, and one last thing I have to mention: you're a between-the-line genius, not only (far from that) but also on sex scenes - where others need to write about hour-long fucking with vigour and vim and in strange positions to declare an earth-shattering orgasm the reader has or has not to believe, you're able to write about a hand job and make me feel like that is the best sex ever and if that wouldn't be enough you make me smile ... a warm smile. Just had to mention that but I can't leave without admitting that I already downloaded "And I Am Happy" - I'm not so much into Steampunk but with you as a guide it can't go wrong.

… and one last last comment: you're to blame that I found my love for classical Hollywood again (guess my bf will be delighted when I agree on one of his DVDs this evening)

… and if I didn't write anything about Cal and Ray means only that I don't want to bother you to much with my strange uncontrolled comment. Maybe I'm doing that sometimes later on your journal :)

You can comment wherever you like, my journal or here.

I barely write steampunk in the real, sci fi sense of it. I mean to but then I get more interested in the characters and their problems than in the technology. So I'm probably not the best intro to steampunk out there. (She says, as if she didn't just write a steampunk book. Although I did put in effort to actually have steampunk elements in detail in Wicklow and Rhoades' story.)

Sometimes certain stories don't need a full sequel but yes, as you said, you just want to catch up with the characters a bit, see how they are doing.

Ah. The sex scenes. They have to fit the people, you know? Charlie doesn't just want sex he wants intimacy (and he wants Will). A handjob against a door makes him happier than anything else. Although Charlie also isn't the type to get his hopes up so something simple is better than he would have let himself imagine. Charlie breaks my heart sometimes. I am so glad he has a Will who loves him so fiercely and who enjoys giving Charlie so much. I bet Charlie feels spoiled by it sometimes. Like he can't believe he's so lucky, just everyday.
Except for sometimes, when I imagine Charlie feels like Ricky coming home to Lucy just a little bit. But even then he loves it. :)

Classic Hollywood! I accept that blame!

Hope you don't got me wrong regarding my comment about the sex scenes because I'm totally with Charlie. It is always the intimacy I enjoy the most (I'm well aware that there are also other views on that topic, but) and intimacy is something I have to feel while reading a scene, it's nothing I just believe because an author is stating it and that's what I wanted to tell you: you make me feel that by filling the space between the line with the right images, with the right emotion. Seems like you trust your readers understanding what this is all about. I like that and so: thx.

I'm sure Charlie is a little bit spoiled by Will but he so totally deserves it and as long as he knows he's lucky to be with Will and do everything in return, I'm certain Will doesn't want to change anything. They're made for each other, make each other complete. Have to catch up with them again soon.

By 'Lucy' you mean Lucille Ball? Unfortunately she wasn't such popular here in Germany. Guess we had only one season somewhere in the 60s without any rerun afterwards. So I hardly remember but I guess I get the picture.

Still thinking how Arthur can be convinced … but maybe it's more that Bertie has to be convinced first that he has to care about Arthur's feelings in that regard. Surely as a dragon he knows how to treat someone so precious before adding something new. Seems like they got caught in that trap again where they assume more and talk less. A treasure such as that has to shine brightly to feel comfortable (I'm sure Cal would agree). So, Bertie, do what a dragon has to do.

Lucille Ball is Will's favorite character from TV. (Clips on youtube. But I just imagine Will getting up to wacky shenanigans sometimes and Charlie coming home in the middle of them and just giving Will this patient, amused (okay slightly irritated) look while he waits for an explanation.

hmmm More that Arthur panics as Arthur does when confronted with something terrifying that he feels he must protect at all costs and Bertie hides his own terror until he's sure Arthur is okay.
