Abandoning. And listening.

So it’s December 20th as I write this. One day until the shortest day of the year, five until Christmas. It’s my kid’s last day of school for two weeks and I can hear her happy voice rising up to my office windows from where she’s playing outside with her sitter. Normally, right now, I’d be busy trying to get in one last day of writing before the holiday made working on my novel in progress difficult, if not impossible. But I’m not, because two weeks ago, after strugging with it basically sin...

Readingmom Thank you for sharing. Great advice, for writing & for life in general! I hope that you enjoy a wonderful holiday season, and am sure that, at some future date, you will feel the urge to type furiously at your laptop once again.

Lynne Vanderveen I agree that it is great advice for writers and others! Enjoy your holiday and your break. When you have recharged and hear your next book calling, your audience will be waiting.

Cindy I LOVE all your books. I am reading This Lullaby now. (Obviously out of order since it was your first). You are a great talent and I am sure you will return to writing when the time is right. Perhaps an "Abandon" is exactly what you need for now. Merry Christmas and enjoy your family.

Brynna Okay well for starters, you gave it your all and that IS enough. You struggled a lot and this is perfectly okay. Part of learning and being successful is struggling and making mistakes. I am also proud of you for giving it a shot and for realizing that what you were doing at the time wasn't working. It is also good to take a break. Writing is a huge process and very stressful (I am a college student and have written A LOT!). Before you know it, an idea could pop into your head in the middle of taking an afternoon stroll or spending time with your daughter. It will come one day. I really love your writing. I am currently reading This Lullaby and I love it. I can't wait to read the other books!! :)

Katie I'm a huge fan! I love all your books. I have read all of them over and over. They take me to another place when I need to excape from a world that never stops moving. They keep me still and at peace. I strive to be someone who can, one day, have that kind of positive effect on someone like you have on me. Making someone's life a better ride. Just like my favorite, Along for the Ride. It's nice to not feel alone. Hope you enjoyed your holiday and a happy new year.
