Random Thought

Last night I was packing for a trip and I started to clean out the “medicine” cabinet. I’d say we all have one, but I’m thinking I’m kinda extreme. Anyway, I could swear I do periodic scanning and tossing of things, but I got to doing a full out exam of all bottles in there and ended up filling a garbage bag full of things. How do I have pills from 2010 if I’ve cleaned this thing out? Which leads me to believe, I really should do a full drawer toss when I get home of just about everything in the house. We’ve lived here for almost 18 years. I can honestly say that now, with my youngest applying to colleges, I no longer say, “put this in the basement” when I’m finished with it and “might” use it someday. Because I know that the day I have to clean out that basement is sooner rather than later. I can see us moving to Florida within the next 5 years and I just don’t know how I’d ever empty this whole house!

Don’t ask me how a post on a medicine cabinet turned into a post on … not hoarding but saving. So are your cabinets clean and up to date? Or do you need a good overhaul? What about your whole house?

Ginny OMG, I'm right there with you! Except we have been in our house for 34 years, and I'm hoping to move in 2 years. There is too much stuff all over it. A couple of weeks ago I found pasta from 2009! Next week when I'm off I'm starting with the pantry and cleaning out from there. I keep making trips to the thrift shop, but is seems the minute I return I have another pile! Maybe we need a support group for all of us who absolutely need to thin out our stuff. And I agree, it's not hoarding, but just saving. As in why do I still have that wedding present that I never used but felt obligated to keep? Thanks for letting me know that someone else is in the same boat! Happy Holidays!
