Writing Tip #23

The only way to make it as a writer is to learn to write when you least feel like it.

So the next time you don’t feel like writing, view this as an opportunity, not a curse. Here’s a chance to prove you have what it takes. Prove it to yourself. Write anyway.

You can always delete. If you don’t write, there’s nothing you can do with the time you wasted. And nothing you can accomplish by procrastinating is as beneficial as getting words down.

The next time you feel writers’ block coming on, show it you mean business and write your ass off. Pretty soon, it’ll leave you alone.

Sharlay Author So glad you posted this, I went to write a new chapter of my book today but let tiredness win the battle instead. This really made me think and encouraged me to ride through the tiredness next time, every moment is precious, it's so true! Thanks Hugh :)

Bryan This is really the key to the creative professional. If you're going to depend on your skills - art, music, writing, whatever to make a living - you do it day after day hour after hour. There's no "mood" or "muse" to move you. You do it, like an accountant. You knead it like the bread maker. You crank it like the mechanic. Performance on demand.
