I am a lifelong bibliofile. The books on my shelves have been acquired over the last four and a half decades. Reading has always been a major part of my life even before I began buying these books. Needless to say I did not welcome the ebook revolution with open arms. But a few years ago my son, who is 23 now and also an avid, life long reader, turned me on to the advantages of ebooks. And now, I always have scores of books at my disposal on my smart phone or tablet. If I'm in the doctor's waiting room, or in line to by a tag, or anywhere I find myself waiting, I can be reading a book. I still haven't given up my printed books by any means, but I have embraced the digital option. Any book that I would have normally bought in Hardback, I still buy in hardback. But I have started buying ebooks instead of paperbacks. As for giving up book stores, never! There is no digital equivalent to strolling through a book store. Walking through a book store introduces you to books that you would have never known to look for online. I remember looking at books - for nothing in particular, when a book caught my eye. I had never heard of the book at that time, and I wasn't familiar with the author, so I would have never gone looking for this book. But when I read the title, "Red-headed Step Child," I knew I had to buy it! And that started me on a fantastic series. And the conversations you strike up with other shoppers that you are sharing the isle with are wonderful. I have been introduced to two of my favorite authors talking to someone that I had never met before, and never seen since, in a book store. So I definitely share your love for printed books and book stores. But ebooks do offer thing that neither of can, and one of those is the ability of an author to get their shorter works to readers. So please keep these stories coming, even if they have to be ebook only. And thanks for helping to get the word out that you don't have to buy an e-reader to read ebooks.
