Let My Pains Remain With Me by Suman Pokhrel

Let My Pains Remain With Me
by Suman Pokhrel

My heart itself is a wound; no medicine can cure it
it deepens further if stared at, hurts more if touched
let my ache hide within me; I won’t show, I show it not
let my pains remain with me; I won’t utter, I express it not.

I’ll walk alone, though I may stumble through it
if I can, I will rise; if not, I’ll submit to it
I call for no one to hold me; I crave it not
let my pains remain with me; I won’t utter, I express it not.

I won’t let tears fall; I’ll swallow them, not quit
no words can shake me, no voices can hit
when my heart aches, I’ll hold it; I reveal it not
let my pains remain with me; I won’t utter, I express it not.

(Original work written in November 1996 as भन्दिनँ म भन्दिनँ [Bhandina Ma Bhandina], in Nepali.)
