The Window God Opens
Recently my youngest child graduated from high school at the age of 21. If you’ve read posts on my website, you probably know my children are a sibling group adopted from the Philippines in 1996. Marguerite weighed 24 pounds and wore 18-month baby clothes when we first met. She was four and ½ years old.

It is so obvious that you have a heart so big, that it could only be given from God. You are blessed and so are the children lucky enough to have you for a Mom and a role model.

Peter, put in a good word for me with heaven's librarian. Btw, I adopted my four kids in my late 30s. Closed down my PR firm, hung up my high heels, and jumped into motherhood with gusto. I could share some very amusing stories. Actually, I will...in future novels!

I only wish more adults from the developed would could have the eye-opening opportunity of visiting the developing world. Too many children wait for a Forever Home. And not just in Asia and South American--there are kids trapped in the no man's land of foster care in North America and Europe.
Opening your heart & home to others, even for a bowl of soup, is pure kindness. Inviting them to stay thru college makes you a saint. Like I said, I'll schlep your books anywhere. You've surrounded yourself with love and make it an every-day occurance. Malmsey to ya!

You've surroun..."Thank you for your sweet words, Peter! As far as the invitation goes, I hope my children will stay for a lifetime. It's a few years off, but I simply can't wait to become a grandmother.
All I know for sure is just keep the dialog alive. Even if you have to talk about how stupid most boys are. My daughters keep telling me. One of my favorites: Children spend the first 35 years of their lives resisting the fact that they'll grow up to be just like us. Thank God for osmosis.
I feel so sorry for Dads that miss the boat on this one.

The photograph of my children was taken a few days before I flew to the Philippines to adopt them. All grown now--and, as you can no doubt surmise from the essay, my youngest is in love!
What fun. I commented in my memoir,LIFE INTERRUPTED, about our young son's first experience of "puppy love". I think he was ten or eleven. He met her on a vacation in Colorado and when we drove away he was heartbroken. Sweet memories.
