Hello, Friends -- All 20 Of You(make that 37!)

I launched my Kickstarter project one week ago today, and I'm exceedingly grateful for all of the pledges of support that have come in. I know times are tough and money is tight, so I'm truly touched and gratified by the donations.

Is it possible though, that I have only 20 readers? That would put me squarely in the wrong business. What of the two dozens messages I get week in and week out from people encouraging me to write one sort of book or another? Where are you?

And to those of you bold enough to have asked me to read/blurb your novels -- no trace of you either. That seems a bit unwise.

If you're content with Rachael Ray cookbooks and Stieg Larsson knockoffs, do nothing. Publishers will supply. But those of us hungry for a different reading experience simply can't afford to sit back and wait.

Please help if you're able. Pledges start at $1. I know I'm a cult writer, but an audience of 20?

Don't wait until the last minute. Show up. Here's the link.

Kristin Thank you for reminding me! Meant to pledge sooner.

Thank you, Kristin. It's not in my nature to poke people. Antagonize them? Yes. But I'm a poor poker. So thank you for responding to my blunt post with a contribution.

Paul Milligan Can the problem be that you are loath to be seen to blow your own trumpet? It is an excellent trumpet, and well worth the blowing. Given the great reviews you have had over the years and the affection in which your fans hold you, it must be that the semi-mythical "word" has yet to go out. You are asking for such a relatively small amount of money that this must be the case. I've bent all the ears I can but the right ears are not, obviously, being bent. (Yet.) I've said it before and I'll say it again. Go team Pearson!

Paul Milligan "If you wish in this world to advance,
Your merits you're bound to enhance,
You must stir it and strump it and blow your own trumpet
Or trust me, you haven't a chance."
(W.S. Gilbert.)

Thanks, Paul. I think the fundamental problem is that I can reach relatively few of my readers. That's my fault. I'll have my website (trpearson.com) set up soon, and I'll just work on finding as many of my peeps as I can. We've still got about three weeks left on Kickstarter. I remain hopeful. I'm foolish that way.

Thank you, Mike. We need all the help we can get.

Paul Milligan At this stage every pledge deserves fulsome and non-ironic rejoicing. So;
Hurray, a pledge!

Paul Milligan Had me a pledge like that, I could lead the league! Hosanna!

Mark Mr. Pearson, I know that you have many fans that love your books. I'm sure that getting word to them about this project is the difficult part. You would think that in today's digital driven media that word would spread across the U.S. Hopefully the pledges will keep coming in. I'm looking forward to reading your new book and the wonderful laughs that will reside in the pages. Thanks again.

Hi Mark,
I'm hopeful my readers will support me, but I don't know how to reach the majority of them, as you say. Beyond brainwaves and wishfulness anyway. Tell everybody you know, and thanks for being in touch.

Paul Milligan Have you considered getting in touch with Otto Penzler at the Mysterious Bookstore in NYC? It's one of the biggest specialist bookstores in the world and has an enormous online presence. There must also be some sort of booksellers' association who might be available for approach. Some lateral thinking is required. I asked before if you had tried radio. There must be some currency in a "award winning author appeals to fans for support" human interest story. For goodness' sake, you're famous Southern literary figure! Milk it!

Paul Milligan We greet each pledge with little breathy cries of delight. (When you get sick to death of me paraphrasing you, please let me know.)

Thanks for leading the cheers. Paraphrase as you please.

Paul Milligan Was that another pledge sneaking in when I wasn't looking? If so; Yay! Another pledge! I will now do an attractive interpretive dance.

Paul Milligan A $100 increment. A pledge, an actual pledge. We're not dead in the water yet. I'm beginning to think that it is my anxiety which stalls the pledge-ometer. I won't look at it for a couple of days and see what happens. In the meantime Go go team TRP!
