I thought that the extra time with Rob and wife helped to make the episode so much more heartbreaking for those that had not read the books.
Still it also could be considered a more cruel trick to pull on your viewers by giving them more and then taking it away.
Having read the books first it is hard for me to gauge.
Hopeful that GRRM can keep pace with the series. I would hate to have to boycott the series until he finished, and then return to watch the DVDs.
I don't want the series to blow the ending of the novels for me. (How selfish of me. ;p)
