That sounds like a fabulous weekend. But I have to say you're wrong about the Catholics. We may not surpass the Jews when it comes to guilt, but we are right there with them! (And the cake looks delicious!)

And the cake was fab.
Congrats to you, Ilsa. Got "Ashes" in ppb in one Barnes and Noble and a couple of weeks later found "Shadows" in hardcover in a different B&N. (Got your "Star Trek" book years ago.) So-called YA writing is the most exciting being issued these days and your stuff compares favorably with the best of them - Libba Bray (one of my favorites), Cassandra Clare, Marie Lu and Veronica Roth. (All women - may be a coincidence?)

So-called YA..."Wow, David: long time, no ecoutez! Thanks; being compared to those ladies is high praise. I've been fortunate to have two fantastic publishers and editors who tolerate ambiguity and haven't been afraid to take a couple risks. (How ASHES ended certainly caused some sturm und drang, for example.)
So what's with you? I see that you're in CA now.
Not sure all of your followers are interested in me! But I retired from Illinois, live in LA, enjoy the heck out of it. Have the same Illinois email as always: they made me Emeritus.
