Game of Thrones--I am not happy

Nothing much happening on the medieval front today. So I thought I’d toss out a question for my fellow Game of Thrones addicts, for Westeros has a gritty medieval reality—apart from the dragons and dyrewolves, of course. But there are SPOILERS ahead, so read no farther if you have not already watched Sunday’s episode, The Climb. Am I the only one to be upset with them for this major deviation from the book? I hate what they are about to do to Gentry, what we are probably going to have to watch in gruesome detail next week. It does not make sense to me, either, for how would Melisande know that Gentry was Robert’s illegitimate son? He does not even know it. And hasn’t Arya endured enough already without dumping yet another tragedy upon those slender little shoulders? I am also not happy with what they did with Ros. She was not even in the books, so her fate was utterly in the hands of the HBO screen writers and I thought her fate was gratuitously sadistic. As those who’ve read Storm of Swords can testify, it is not as if we’re going to be lacking for bloodshed and violence and sheer horror in the coming episodes. On a more positive note, I loved the made-up scene between Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) and Diana Rigg (Queen of Thorns) and I really liked the other made-up scene in which Cersei and Tyrion were commiserating with each other about the fun of being Tywin Lannister’s kids. And I thought the ending scene of Jon and Ygritte on the wall was great. But I’m going to be holding a serious grudge for Gentry and Ros.

Darcey I love ASOIAF. I love the books dearly. But I do not like the HBO show one whit. I loathe Talisa, and Ros was... pointless, to me. Some of the changes they made seemed simply to draw people in faster and one of the changes GRRM has noted will be problematic in one of the next two books - and HBO didn't care.

Angela Although I didn't really like Ros to begin with, what happened last episode was very disappointing. From all the screen time she had, I thought the screen writers had some sort of bigger plan for her; and instead... turned out to be pointless, as Darcey said.
Also, completely agree with you about what they're doing with Melisandre/Gendry :(

Nic They're combining Gendry and Edric Storm into one for conservation of characters, and it creates more for Gendry to do. He's probably going to follow Edric Storm's path in the books, which actually has me kind of excited.

Rebecca What I found annoying was the fact that Gendry never seeks to ask WHY so many want him dead! I mean if it were me the Kings-guard wanted dead I'd want to know why? And for Melisandre to just show up-how did she know Gendry was there? And yes, how does she know who Gendry is? And poor Ros....I think that scene happened to remind us how cruel and sadistic Joffrey is-In the lead up to......I'll leave it there.

PS another pet peeve...Too much violence: I close my eyes in scenes with Theon and Ramsay; I can't bear to watch it. But I love the show but it doesn't need so much violence or sex scenes(its OTT at times) And yes, I loved the scene with Dance and Rigg-aren't they brilliant?

Davina Ugh, I know. And to think I was so looking forward to this season as well.

Rebecca I agree and to be honest when you have such a great assortment of good actors there is no need to 'sex' it up. I also hate the violence & there are so many times where I sit and close my eyes, because it is simply awful...and IMO the Theon/Ramsay scenes are simply too sick to watch.

I also loved 'Merlin' which ran for five seasons. There were no sex scenes, the violence was muted and thank God no be-headings or torture shown, but it is alluded too. It was a top rating show...Game of Thrones could learn from them.

But anyway I'll jump off my soap box now lol.
