Good for you! I honestly feel the same way about feeling like you're supposed to be from another time. I'd like my life to span from the 1850's - 1920's. Anyway, I am very, very excited for The Lord of Opium!

Good to hear from you. I love your books and I'm very excited to read The Lord of Opium! I used to teach 8th grade reading in south Texas, and I chose The House of the Scorpion as one of the novels I taught--the students LOVED it (and I do too!).
Oh my goodness so excited for the new book. I always recommend the first one to younger male reluctant readers.
I have never read The House of the Scorpion, but I have read your Sea of Trolls series, and I loved it :) Looking forwards to seeing you pop up on Goodreads.
Immediately pre-ordered Lord of Opium, because I loved House of the Scorpion. I only knew about it because I read it to my kids, but man, it really hit me.I grew up in California. Bugs don't like it because it's so dry in summer, but you'll hear some crickets, anyway. Nothing like Africa, I'm sure, or even Wisconsin (where I live now.)
Welcome to Goodreads! I'm way too old for it and don't quite understand it, but I find the online world exciting anyway.
I look forward to checking out A New Year's Tale! I love how you pick your names for the book; they end up always aptly fitting for the title. Stay healthy and enjoy Chiricahua!
Also is there ever going to be any thing like "the ear, the eye, and the arm?" I've read it so many times, and I keep trying to find other books in that "voice" but just can't. I don't want to pressure you, but I just love that book.
You just described the perfect living situation for me. I would be PERFECTLY happy with no television or phone. However, my other half would most likely die of shear boredom. He CLAIMS that he likes to read, but in the eleven years we have been together I have known of him to read ONE book. It is really nice to hear from you and I am excited about The Lord of Opium. Will definitely read once it is released.
