Tell Me It’s Real has been out for three weeks now and I've received a large volume of mail for it, more so than after any other release. It's sitting right now at 104 (!!!) different emails from all over the world, so if I haven't gotten back to you yet, just be patient and I promise I will.
The common thread among the emails, from both men and women alike? The sentence "I am just like Paul."
I've also been messaged by quite a few readers and authors in the past couple of weeks, wondering how is it that I maintain my sanity after one of my releases, especially since my name and my books tend to garner such vocal reactions that run from excitement to contempt from readers, reviewers, and other authors alike. I don't always understand the dislike for me or my work, but frankly, I could care less. You want to know how I maintain my sanity? Go back and read the beginning of this post.
"I am just like Paul."
I choose to focus on the good. I will ALWAYS choose to focus on the good. Because you know what? There are enough people in the world who want to knock you down. Why let them? Why pay them any attention at all? Any ONE message I get from someone who tells me my book has helped them with a difficult part of their life will always mean more than ALL the ridiculous grumbling that I am what is wrong with the m/m genre today, that I don't deserve the success I've been fortunate enough to have, and blah, blah, bladdy blah.
My point? Focus on the good, and fuck all the rest. That is how I maintain my sanity.
"I am just like Paul."
You know what? So am I.
Now that that's out of the way, I have another book coming out in two weeks. Into This River I Drown is the book I'm most proud of having written, and I can't wait for you all to read it. Longtime followers will know I usually have a playlist of my favorite songs to go along with my new releases. I've posted it today on my blog, which you can follow the link too. Enjoy!
