Dealing with Writer’s Block

Writing is tough. People who don’t, can’t, or won’t write have no idea how difficult it is to consistently put coherent words together. If you hope to one day become a real author, you need to get past the idea that writing is a hobby—something you do in your spare time. It’s a calling and it’s work.

Shido So. How DO you deal with Writer's Block, Jerry?

I will never forget one instance of WB that occurred to me while I was pulling an all-nighter at my university's library. It was around 3 AM and I suddenly found myself wondering 'how do I spell the word "the" ?'

I suspect one indication of WB is that you can no longer think deductively. Any 5 year old could tell you: just pick up a book and find it. The word "the" is everywhere, as are the indistinct articles.
But, when you can no longer think, the obvious is suddenly hidden. That is when practiced habits can be a life-saver; automatic responses that can help jump-start your deductive reasoning and allow you to write again.

So, Jerry, what do YOU do?
