Swilliams305 Love The Dark Duet and have 2 questions:

1. How much backlash did you receive, if any, from creating such a sensitive masterpiece?

2. Have you considered doing a novella that would shed some light on how Caleb and Olivia is coping?

Ooh a novella would be great!

CJ

First off like I previously posted on your page, The Dark Duet is hands down my favorite reads of 2012. I topped out the year at over 175 books read and nothing had me captivated like your duet did! I recommend it to everyone. I begged everyone to download and to read it. All my girlfriends, my mother, my sister in law, my mother in law, and for god sakes even my OB!!!! (No Joke!) Everyone fell hard as soon as they finished. I received a call from my mother at 2am (mind you I had to take my daughter to school a few hours later) just as she finished and man if I didn't love that woman I would have drove to her house and whipped her with my own nook! lmao It has consumed everyone I have recommended it to. So...onto my question.

Every author has a situation, event, dream, or a moment where they are inspired to put ink down on that notebook. Where did your inspiration come from while creating Olivia and Caleb? What made you take the darker path and decide to write about something so sensitive that many authors wouldn't dare to attempt?

Your Brilliant Miss CJ and I am anxious to hear how Caleb and Olivia came to be! :-)

saarah An incredible and captivating book duet!...Among the very best that I've read 2011/2012.
I am sure the readers have all felt similar emotions/reactions to the scenes in the books -despite some criticism about it romanticizing human trafficking/ sexual slavery. However I'm curious to know how YOU felt whilst writing the more gruesome scenes and how it perhaps affected you?

Louise How did (view spoiler) go out abroad?? did the feds just close the case and and move on think his dead...I mean airport security should be in red alert:)by that time and how can he go to Germany and Spain or everywhere??:) And how did Livvie didn't get pregnant, I think he did before they part ways:)
I love this series...And your an Amazing Author Cj! keep on writing!:)

Jae Dee Amazing book. Critics come a dime a dozen and some people just love to nit pick at everything. This book is a fantastic work of fiction and I would bet there are some instances where persons of sexual slavery develop romantic feelings toward their captor and it wouldn't something easily understood by outsiders looking in. So that all I will say about the criticism of "romanticizing" human trafficking/sexual slavery.

The more nagging questions I have are, what happened to Kid (I really liked him) and Nancy (her Karma was seriously tragic)? Also what became of Reed & Sloan? Ugh I want more... TELL ME MORE... (Greedy reader... I confess).

Louise yeah, Felipe and Celia too. where are they?

message 8: by Isabel (new)

Isabel Dear C.J.,
I agree with all the accolades everyone before me has written. I too have just spent the last 48 hours reading the duet series. I know the story of Livvie and Caleb/James was meant to be a 2 book series (I know there's a third book but it's about Reed), have you thought about some spin off series that might involve the early days of Vladek when he was in the states, how he met James's mother, the influence of his Russian family, why he really left the US, how he got caught up with Rafik, and whether he knew about James...qith it all ending with maybe a face to face with with James....
What about Felipe and Celia...what was the history with her father and Filipe And how did she end up in Mexico.
Best wishes

Thanks so much! I'll definitely include my answer to this. But the short answer is that I am already a dark person. I started having dreams and scary thoughts one night in Germany. I couldn't sleep, so I started writing. The rest, as they say...

I cut this from the book because it lagged and didn't really add anything, but he's basically had a 'go bag' set up for a very long time. Passports, ID's, cash. He always planned on getting out one day.

I promise to give it all to you at some point. Unfortunately, I can only write so fast. :( I'm super slow.

Swilliams305 I'll be on the lookout. Fingers crossed!

Candy I have a few..okay A LOT of questions to ask haha But I'll narrow it down to these 3 that i've been wondering about.

Will the spin off take place after Seduced or prior to Captive?

Who or what inspires you?

What is your favorite characteristics of Caleb and Livvie?

message 16: by Michel (new)

Michel Scott Please please please tell me Captive and Seduced will be coming out as an audio book???? SOON????? :)

I've been approached by some interested parties, so I hope it will be in the works this year.

These are really good! I'll answer more in-depth later, but for now:

1. The spin-off (Agent Reed)will take place post Seduced. I know people are wondering if Reed and Caleb will meet, but for now I'm going to say no.

2. So much inspires me, I couldn't list it all. Sometimes it's a single moment, a word, a picture, a memory. I read whenever possible. I love comic books and will devour all things Superman. I have mad-love for Lex Luthor AND Clark Kent. I will watch anything by Quentin Tarantino, Joss Whedon, or J.J. Abrams. Which means I WILL be watching the new Star Wars movie even though I want to punch George Lucas sometimes.

3. I love their willingness to crawl across emotional broken glass just to spite anyone who tries to keep them down.
