Totally unfair. Backing into a parking spot means you are going in reverse towards stationary objects- other parked cars. However, backing out of a parking spot means you are going in reverse, with more limited visibility (especially considering how large the vehicles on either side are), potentially into the path of other moving vehicles (piloted by people who are paying limited attention, talking on cell phones, looking everywhere for a parking spot but not right in front of them) or into the path of pedestrians who you may or may not be able to see (who are also distracted by cell phones, children, or cumbersome packages). I almost always back into parking spaces (unless I am lazy), and it is so much easier to exit afterwards. The only downside is more limited trunk access for purchased items.
