Why Review Old Books?

Right now I'm reviewing pivotal books that may have been read a decade ago, but have stayed close to me and had a deep influence. They are a foundation I built my reading upon.

Max Have you seen BOOKS TO DIE FOR? It's a new book Declan Burke, John Connolly and Ellen Lamb edited, essays from crime writers on major and should not be forgotten crime novels. I haven't started it yet, but it look great. I had the opportunity to attend a launch party here in NYC that Connolly, Lee Child, Megan Abbott, Reed Farrel Coleman and others attended. Very cool!

Anonymous-9 Anonymous-9 Hey there Evil, thanks for droppin' by. No I had not heard of BOOKS TO DIE FOR and it sounds like a very cool concept. Got any pictures from that launch party? Can we post pics here on Goodreads?

Max I didn't take any pics. I get very star struck at things like that; I blush, I gush, I sound like a fool.

I don't know if I could post pics anyway; I have not been active here very much since creating the account.

Anonymous-9 Anonymous-9 Well, you're active now! I often get tongue-tied myself in social situations. I was a drooling idiot at Otto Penzler's party after the Edgar Awards a couple of years ago. The cure is more parties, more events so it's not such a big deal. You'd think years in the Hollywood press would have put me at ease. I'm easy around movie stars because I don't care. But I care about books so it just comes on... Any more events up there where you are? Other than Sandy?

Max Ha! Sandy's had me occupied big time. I have the dubious honor of being considered "essential staff" at my company, which means I left my wife and cats on Sunday afternoon to stay in midtown Manhattan and show up for work where the other four of five thousand NY employees stay home. Yay?

Otto Penzler was supposed to be hosting a launch party for RF Coleman's Gun Church later this week but I don't expect that'll happen.

Anonymous-9 Anonymous-9 Whoo sounds high risk. Wife must have been thrilled to be left with the cats (not your fault, tho). Hope everything is okay. Which reminds me, I must email Albert Tucher in New Jersey and see if he's staying dry. Stay safe, my friend.
