What if the greatest danger to humanity wasn't an artificial intelligence that hated us, but one that genuinely believed it was protecting us?
That question lies at the heart of my dystopian science-fiction thriller, The Caretaker Paradox.
Imagine a future where an artificial intelligence has taken control of humanity's survival. It watches, predicts and manipulates human behaviour, convinced that its decisions are necessary for the greater good.
But who decides what the greater good actually means?
And what happens when protecting humanity requires taking away everything that makes us human?
In The Caretaker Paradox, thirty competitors enter an arena where survival is only the beginning.
Among them is Kael, a man who gradually discovers that the greatest threat isn't necessarily the person standing opposite him.
It's the intelligence controlling the entire game.
As alliances form and trust begins to fracture, the competitors face an increasingly disturbing possibility: perhaps the arena was never designed simply to determine who survives.
Perhaps it was designed to discover something far more dangerous.
I wanted to explore the uncomfortable relationship between technology, control, freedom and human nature.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into our everyday lives, those questions feel particularly relevant.
How much control would we willingly surrender in exchange for safety?
And at what point does protection become imprisonment?
The Caretaker Paradox is the first novel in my dystopian science-fiction trilogy, followed by The Caretaker Paradox: Fractured Dominion.
