One must ask where does the responsibility ultimately lie? If we are to hold the West and Israel to account, which may indeed be warranted in many cases, then we must also extend that same standard to the Iranian and Palestinian people. Responsibility is not a luxury; it is a moral necessity. One cannot continually adopt the role of a historical victim without surrendering the very agency needed to enact change. If there is to be progress, it must begin with confronting the ideological and cultural narratives that sustain suffering, by looking inward as much as outward.
