Are You A Mood Reader?

Over the last six months, I've tracked my reading, coming to a surprising (for me) conclusion. When I'm stressed, I read RomCom. It's always good for a few chuckles and doesn't require anything of me emotionally. If I want something with substance, I generally reach for mystery or suspense, though I do enjoy memoir and historicals, too. Do you read only one genre, or are you a mood reader too?

Melanie I'm absolutely a mood reader. I pick books in part on where I need my mood to be. I discovered I get so into books that I sometimes have a physical reaction. I was reading a suspense in the waiting room at the doctor's office and they were greatly concerned with my blood pressure when they called me back. If I am holding a sleeping child I need to do something really calm or my thumping heart doesn't help keep them calm. If the book is in a really sad or hard place I have to be careful not to let my mood go too far down with the characters or my family wonders what in the world they did wrong!

Melanie, I'll definitely keep in mind what I'm reading next time I hold a sleeping baby! I'm sorry about the blood pressure--but how cool that you were experiencing the story with the character:).
