A phone is not an alarm clock!

For over 50 years I was always to work on time. Not once did I go in late with the excuse that my alarm didn't go off. In the last few years of my jobs I don't know how many times I heard that excuse from folks coming in late. Sometimes it was the same person! Now I know that cell phones can do a lot of things these days but for heaven's sake, spend a fraction of what you paid for that phone and get a good wind up or battery operated alarm clock.
This morning we got a call asking us to go check on our grandson. His parents were working and he wasn't answering his phone. So there I was standing in the rain, banging on the door, hoping that he was alright and just overslept. When he finally answered the door all sleepy-eyed he said that his alarm didn't go off. Now I don't know if he meant his phone, fancy watch/phone, computer or ipad. All I cared about was that he was alright. But as I went back to my car I thought, "The kid needs an alarm clock."
