GalaxyCon Raleigh 2022 Recap

What an incredible convention, and so much to tell you about.

First, by going to Raleigh, I was able to meet long-time friend and fellow author K.L. Hiers in person after years of knowing each other virtually. We shared a table at the con and were able to celebrate both our birthdays during the trip.

Artist Alley is one of my favorite places to be, where artists and writers alike can flourish. I could not believe the support for our books and just how much we sold even on Thursday, which is often quite slow, and Sunday, which is usually even slower. And so many great costumes from con-goers!

Friday, K.L. and I dressed up as Androids 17 & 18 from Dragon Ball Z.

Saturday, we changed it up to Captain Cold and The Flash, and I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Rosenbaum, the voice of the Wally West version of the Flash, along with many familiar roles.

And as a bonus on Saturday, we attended the finale part of the wrestling show put on by Fantasy Super Cosplay Wrestling, featuring my talented friend Darin Corbin as Syndrome.

We dressed down Sunday, exhausted as we were, but took that day to see Brendan Fraser (The Mummy), Andy Robinson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Hellraiser), and the biggest highlight for me was Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows).

We also got to meet fellow authors Morgan Brice and Kassie Keegan (who gave me a little octopus plushie in honor of my merman book).

We ended with a commemorative photo in front of the airport, where we met and then said goodbye (at least for a little while).

Stay tuned to learn about other conventions I might be going to coming up, and I hope to see you in person someday soon. If you’re interested in signed copies of my books, you can check what’s available on my Etsy store.

Douglas You flew all the way down to Raleigh to sell books? I drove down to Richmond Comicon back in the Spring. It was cheap because I had friends who hosted my stay. I drove instead of flew because I figured flying the books down would be a big cost. A hotel on the return trip cost some bucks too, but it was in another town that I could visit friends at. Quite an investment to head that far to sell, but I hope you sold a lot and I'm glad you had a good time.
