In 75 Years, You Are Bound to Learn Something

Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 75-years-old. During that three-quarters of a century I have experienced success, failure, happiness, sadness, love, hate, good times and bad and have learned much in the process.

Just a few of the lessons learned:

- To make a mistake does not mean that your are stupid. To make the same mistake twice does.

- Losing a loved one hurts a lot. It is never easy; however, as time passes, it does become easier.

- Children are individuals; no two are exactly alike. Being raised in the same manner does not guarantee that they will all turn out the same.

- After the last shot is fired, peace treaties are signed, and a war is officially declared over, there are no winners and no losers. There are only survivors.

- Life is like an amusement park ride. Everyone gets a turn. At the start, the ride seems to go very slowly; however, it soon goes very fast. Some parts are amusing and enjoyable, others are scary and challenging. Just when it feels like the ride will never end, it slows again and suddenly comes to a stop. It is time to leave and allow someone else to have their turn.

My ride is nearly over. It wasn't perfect. However, given the chance, I would do it all over again.

Donna Emerald I'm glad to hear there are no regrets, and you're having a good trip. Nice post, too.

Donna,

Thank you for taking the time to read the blog post and commenting.

I found your Goodreads Author Bio. to be clever and amusing without actually revealing too much personal detail. I too like animals and refuse to hunt them for sport and have also eaten unusual things (thanks to military survival training).

I have never visited Ireland. Acquaintances who have speak highly of the scenery and the inhabitants.

Christine Hayton Happy Birthday Jim. Wishing you a wonderful year. I consider 75 middle age so get ready for more adventures. Life is precious and it ain't over yet. Time to do the things that bring peace. Walk in the woods everyday - it's never the same. Volunteer at your local hospital for grandpa duty in the neo-natal ward - they need people to cuddle and rock the babies. Paint on canvas. Join a tai-chi class. The possibilities are endless. Enjoy the next 25 years - one day at a time. I hope we're still messaging on your 100th birthday - plan on it.

Christine,

Thank you for, once again, taking the time to read and comment on the blog post. As always, your input is very much appreciated.

I am still actively interacting with my adult children and grandchildren (2 of whom are now adults) and taking road trips (45 States to-date).

Tricia Gardella Enjoyed your philosophy, Jim. Sounds a lot like mine, which is the background of my recently released memoir. My only writing for adults. I'm a picture book writer through and through. Get moving, you only have five states to go. I filled in mine four years ago, all fifty, probably because I have a couple years on you.

Tricia,

Thank you for taking the time to read the blog post and commenting. I appreciate it.

I see that you have had 5 books published. That is truly admirable. There is no doubt in my mind that there are several more stories fermenting inside your brain that will eventually evolve into published works.

Tricia Gardella I won't even tell you how many of my PB are in the works. The first was launched this week but only in HB. Hope to have paperback and kindle up by the end of the week but it depends on my designer. I'm learning a lot but from way too many generations back to have too much tech savy. Four of the books you saw were published in the 90s. Sort of took a 20 year sabbatical and didn't think I would ever be back but here I am, thanks to indie. I know it was invented just for me. I'm planning to crank books out at a regular pace for the next couple years. We'll see.
