The Bow of Destiny’s Main Character

Today is a continuation last week’s series about The Bow of Destiny. Today, it’s all about the main character and what makes the book go. But first, here’s the book trailer: Athson is the main character of The Bow of Hart and a rather complex one at that. He suffers from fits over the violent […]

Barnaby Taylor Hi P.H
Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed your trailer. I have never written a fantasy novel, what is it like? I have always thought that the hardest part must be coming with all the names. What's the hardest part for you?
Thanks again for sharing,
Barnaby

Hi Barnaby,

I'm so glad you enjoyed the post and the trailer. I want to create more DIY trailers but it takes me time and I'm rather busy with a lot of projects these days.

Writing a fantasy is challenging because it requires constructing a complex world and its traits around a plot. The culture, language and magic must have suitable details in which the characters experience the unfolding story. But it is a lot of fun putting all the pieces together, all of which shape the book/series beyond the initial ideas.

Names are challenging - certainly a solid one or a lead character. Geography also frequently has some difficulty to it since it can affect the story in a wide array of possibilities. You frequently have to get the setting well developed to fit. Then making it all work in unison becomes the challenge around a set of characters and their story.

I'm currently working on several books that are very different in style, setting, culture and magic system. But they are enjoyable to write. I hope to begin sharing more about them as soon as I'm able.

Thanks for the questions. Perhaps I'll address these more in a few blog posts.

Regards,

PHS
