In 2014 the US did a good job using "$3 million to help reseed pastures in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas with bee-appropriate plants. Increasing the availability of plants like alfalfa and clover will provide more foodstock for the thousands of commercial beekeepers who bring hives to those states each year, ..."*.
Sure: insecticides, diseases, urbanization/habitat loss, depletion of their natural sources are some of the causes for the extinction. Not to mention some killer bees around...; or (in North of Portugal) the terrible Asian wasp which has been for the last 6 years a source of worry for beekeepers**.
Poor bees...
